Apple provided video calls on the iPhone4 using two cameras: the front and the back. Already installed on the new iPhone, the one tap simple video call can be made either from the start, either while having am already started voice conversation. Front an back cameras are there to show either you rface, either to share you surroundings with your interlocutor.
Calls can be made by the Facetime app over a Wi Fi connection, Apple limiting this feature only for Wi Fi, so, an internet connection is necessary to use this feature.
If you want to make video calls over another connection than Wi Fi, you need to jailbreak your iPhone4.
If you feel comfortable about a total stranger website crumbling inside your new iPhone4’s software, than you can find several web sites that do this for you.
My3G from the Cydia App store costs around 3 or 4 bucks, and 3G video calls will be possible after you jailbreak you iPhone4.
The quality of the 3G video call is the same as the Facetime’s Wi Fi call, users which tried this hacked version saying they couldn’t see any quality differences between the two connections.
However, no guarantees are offered for the safety of your iPhone4, and if you have doubts about hacking up your iPhone’s software, than you might consider finding other apps to have video calls over 3G network. Fring app might be a good option if you fear of jailbreaking.11
