Blackberry Onyx

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 also known as the Onyx III is a great smartphone that looks pretty much like any other RIM device available on the market. When you first look at this smartphone you notice how slim and narrow it is, measuring 110 x 60 x 11.4mm and weighing 107 grams. In terms of design, the Bold 9790 catches your attention with the classic chrome band, sleek lines and a curved finish. On the front surface you can notice the 2.45-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels, the navigation array with an optical trackpad in the middle and the full QWERTY keyboard. Above the screen you will see the earpiece, a status LED and both the proximity and ambient light sensors. The keyboard is responsive allowing you to easily type messages and emails despite the restrictive location available for it.

On top of the smartphone you will find the lock button while on the left side you will see the 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right side you will discover the volume rocker and a convenience key which acts as camera activation and shutter key. On the bottom of the phone you will find the microUSB port while behind the battery cover you will see the microSD card slot. Under the hood, this smartphone hosts a 1GHz processor with 768MB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It runs on BlackBerry OS 7 which comes with attractive icons that remind of those available on the PlayBook tablet. The home screen hosts virtual buttons that allow you to access Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, the alarm clock and the settings menu. You will also find on this device the voice search feature and a phone book limited only by the memory available. This phone book allows you to add for each contact various personal details along with various phone numbers, caller picture ID and a ringtone.

The Bold 9790 is also equipped with SNS integration, organizer, calendar, to-do list, document viewer/editor and voice memo/dial. You will be able to use various text and multimedia messaging options and access POP3 and IMAP4 email accounts. The built-in media player comes with an attractive interface and various settings including the possibility to search for tracks and sort them by album, genre and artist. This media player is able to support various file formats including DivX/Xvid, MP4 and MP3. The 5MP rear camera available on the Bold 9790 is equipped with LED flash, geo-tagging and video recording capabilities. Picture quality is great with plenty of details and accurate colors while the videos recorded at 30fps look good as well. With a 1230mAh battery on board, this BlackBerry provides 5.2 hours of talk time.
