Blackberry Pearl 8120

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 is an attractive RIM device which catches the attention with a slim and light design and stainless-steel trimming. It measures 107 x 50 x 14mm and weighs around 91 grams, so it can be operated with one hand. This BlackBerry Pearl comes with a 2.2-inch screen with a resolution of 240 x 260 pixels able to support 65,000 colors. This screen is large enough for using the apps available on this device and even for watching videos. Under the screen you will find the navigational array with a trackball in the middle and the SureType keyboard which has responsive keys, perfect for typing long messages. On the left side of the phone you will find the 3.5mm headphone jack, the microSD/SDHC card slot, a push-to-talk button and a mini USB port while on the right side you will see the volume rocker and the camera activation button. On the top of the phone you will discover the mute button while on the back you will find the camera.

When it comes to the hardware department, I must say that the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 is equipped with a 312MHz processor with 32MB of RAM. It runs on BlackBerry OS and offers various advanced features. This smartphone is able to support Wi-Fi, EDGE and an improved web browser that allows you to easily zoom in/out. Besides Wi-Fi, you will also be able to use Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS. Other useful features that you will discover on this BlackBerry are conference calling, smart dialing and voice-activated dialing. The Pearl 8120 offers an address book limited only by the memory available which is spacious enough to allow the entry of eight phone numbers, job title, nickname and a picture ID for each contact.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 is able to sync with your company’s BES in order to deliver real time emails and allows you to access POP3 and IMAP4 email accounts directly from your smartphone. The attachment viewer available lets you open and view various file formats including Word, PowerPoint, PDF and Excel. You will be pleased to know that this BlackBerry also provides a built-in media player which is able to support various file formats including WMA, AAC, MP3, MPEG4 and WMV. It also allows you to create playlists and shuffle/repeat your songs.

On the back you will find the 2MP camera which comes with various camera settings and video recording capabilities. You can use white-balance settings, color effects and three quality options. Pictures captured look nice with objects clearly defined, but colors that lack warmth. Regarding call quality, you should know that the Pearl 8120 provides clear and loud conversations even in noisy environments.
