Blackberry Storm 9530 Review

Released in 2008, the BlackBerry Storm 9530 is an attractive smartphone equipped with advanced features and capabilities. It’s the first RIM device to come equipped with a TFT touchscreen able to display pretty sharp and crisp images. The Storm 9530 catches your attention with a black casing with silver accents. It measures 112.5 x 62.2 x 14mm and weighs 155 grams. On the front surface of the smartphone you will notice a 3.25-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. You can adjust the screen’s backlight and font size and even the screen orientation with the help of the built-in accelerometer. Under the screen, you will find touch-sensitive navigation controls which include Talk and End/Power keys, a Clear button and a Menu key.

To complete the exterior description of this smartphone I need to mention that the microSD port and the user-programmable shortcut button are located on the left side of the phone while the volume rocker, the second customizable key and the 3.5mm headphone jack sit on the right side. Behind the battery cover you will discover the microSD card slot and the SIM card. The Storm 9530 hosts under its hood a 528MHz processor with 128MB of RAM and 1GB of storage and runs on BlackBerry OS 4.7 (upgradable to superior versions). You will get plenty of advanced features including DataViz Documents To Go, memo pad, voice recorder and text and multimedia messaging. To type messages and emails you will have to use the SureType keyboard in portrait mode or a full QWERTY onscreen keyboard in landscape mode. The phone book available is limited only by the memory available and offers the possibility to add for each entry various phone numbers, work and home addresses, nickname, caller ID picture and a ringtone.

You should also know that the Storm 9530 can sync with your company’s BES in order to send real-time emails. This smartphone also allows you to access POP3 and IMAP4 email accounts using the BlackBerry Internet Service and provides support for email attachments. You will also have the opportunity to easily switch between GSM and CDMA networks because it supports dual-mode functionality. This RIM phone offers various connectivity options including A-GPS, Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS and 3G. The web browser available allows you to easily load web pages in both original site and column view mode and even stream YouTube videos directly on your smartphone. You will get download speeds of up to 800Kbps and upload speeds of 400Kbps.

On this device you will also find a 3.2MP camera able to take nice photos and record decent videos, a built-in media player and a 1400mAh battery which guarantees 5.3 hours of talk time.
